Regarding twitter's changes yesterday, removing replies from someone you follow to someone you don't follow from your feed (which they've sort-of-but-not-really resolved), @chartier says it right (in 3 separate tweets):

Twitter's change to @replies option is the worst decision they've ever made. Might as well cut tweet length to 1 char and sell to Microsoft.

No reason to remove that option. Absolutely none. Period. Could have just changed the default, let adventurous users explore if they want.

You don't put up a soundproof glass wall in a coffee shop between tables. You let people be people and mingle in conversations if they want.
