DrupalCampNYC8 Session: A Developer's Arsenal of Productivity Hacks

I'll be presenting a session at DrupalCampNYC in an hour, "A Developer's Arsenal of Productivity Hacks." I'll be covering terminal fu (basics through Bash scripting), Mac tricks, and a bunch of miscellaneous doodads.

Slides are here (powered by S5 and Markdown). Thanks to Markdown they're also visible in a normal post mode.

Update 8/14: There is video!! Thanks to Joel Moore of Bang! House Studios for recording and editing the video (unbeknownst to me until recently). Source video on Archive.org.

A couple more tips:

use search engines to make quick links for drupal projects and nodes. in chrome, go to preferences. in "default search" click the "manage" button. add a new search engine. i set up these two:

Name: "Drupal projects", Keyword: "d", URL: "http://drupal.org/project/%s"

Name: "Drupal", Keyword: "dn", URL: "http://drupal.org/node/%s"

This means that in the location bar I can type "d drush" to get to the drush project page.

also, just ran into this via daring fireball: http://superuser.com/questions/52483/terminal-tips-and-tricks-for-mac-os-x

http://dgo.to is another web-based shortcut to drupal.org pages

Oy. Fixed, thanks!

I just discovered DTerm (via Lifehacker), which brings a Quicksilver-like contextual terminal into every program. Looks cool, I'll see how it integrates with my workflow.

A note on the recording of this session: I tried to do audio+screen recording with Quicktime, but the video was corrupted (I probably closed the laptop before it finished processing). So unfortunately there's no recording of the session.
I've thought about re-recording it, if anyone's interested in that let me know and I'll do so if there's some demand.

Correction and update: there is video after all! (See the post)
